LISTEN – Wye Oak “Fortune” + JOIN Tour

November 12th, 2019

Wye Oak share bombastic new single “Fortune” and 2020 JOIN tour dates. Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack returned to the studio in the summer of 2019, and the result is the most generous and daring material of the duo’s career. The first look into this new music is the searing single “Fortune,” about which Wasner says: “Life is change. Change is loss. This song is about how hard it is to let go, and the feeling of celebrating and mourning it all at once.”

Living in the same city (their adopted home of Durham, NC) for the first time since 2012 has given Wasner and Stack the opportunity to chart a new path, and to re-examine and rework the pre-existing confines of their long-standing musical partnership. In addition to releasing new material, the group is mounting their most ambitious tour yet. Called JOIN, the tour will feature a newly expanded live band performing Wye Oak’s music and songs from Stack and Wasner’s respective solo projects, Joyero and Flock of Dimes, and beyond.

OUT NOW – Brother Ali + Evidence Album + US Tour

November 5th, 2019

Secrets & Escapes is a compendium of Brother Ali’s time spent with Evidence, over the course of three trips to California. Evidence chopped up records on old-school samplers and ran them through a compressor (2 track) so they couldn’t be re-arranged or mixed. Brother Ali sat with the mic and spit rhymes as they came to him, without writing or organizing them into songs. Ev smoked a lot of weed, Ali prayed extensively, and their influences on each other can be heard in the recordings. Any time they made something that reminded them of what they’ve become known for, they threw it away and started something new. Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and CS Armstrong came through to bless the project with contributions, too. Secrets & Escapes is the result of two friends making rap music for no other reason than because it’s what they love to do. LISTEN HERE!

LISTEN – POLIÇA “Driving” + US Tour Dates

November 3rd, 2019

This coming winter, Poliça will release their fourth album When We Stay Alive. It’ll be the Minnesota band’s first project since frontwoman Channy Leaneagh fell off her roof at the top of 2018, an accident that damaged her L1 vertebrae and left her with limited mobility. As a result, the project will magnify her healing process with songs about self reevaluation. The first is “Driving,” a hazy track that works its way from a queasy mirage into a healthy groove. – READ MORE VIA FADER

ICYMI – Haleek Maul “Ceiling Fan”

November 1st, 2019

Born in Brooklyn, New York, 21-year-old rapper, singer and producer Haleek Maul was sent to the tropical island of Barbados at a young age to attend school and be raised outside the chaotic American city. Inspired by the sounds that filled his childhood environment, he began creating music while in high school, and what started off as innocent rhyming and mimicry of his favorite artists became an obsession which led him to pursue production and greater musical exploration.

Check out his first single “Ceiling Fan” below, which was features as one part of EBro’s “Discovered On” feature on his Beats1 show this week!
