Erika Wennerstrom Shares Two Townes Van Zandt Covers

May 6th, 2019

Ahead of a run of European tour dates this Spring, Erika Wennerstrom (of Heartless Bastards) has shared a pair of Townes Van Zandt covers. “Be Here To Love Me” and “I’ll Be Here In The Morning” are lush, affectionate tributes to one of Wennerstrom’s longtime musical heroes, listen below.

Be Here To Love Me
I’ll Be Here in the Morning

Wennerstrom says of the songs:

“Townes Van Zandt’s Music has accompanied me on a many a long drive. I find his voice comforting, and in combination with his writing he is truly unique and exceptional. There is no one like Townes not for lack of trying. I wanted to pay tribute on a couple songs. It was actually very difficult to pick which ones, but with “Be Here To Love Me” I had a vision right away of how to put it together in my own way, and for “I’ll Be Here in the Morning” I just felt very comfortable singing it. We had a lot of fun in the studio making these recordings.  There’s not a lot of frills and production. Sometimes things are just easy and uncomplicated. I’m really proud of how they turned out.”

In addition to the European dates supporting Patty Griffin, Wennerstrom will also support The Avett Brothers at Red Rocks later this summer. Full routing below.

‘Sweet Unknown’ met with career-best reviews, with raves coming from Rolling Stone, Consequence of Sound, Relix, Billboard, Bust + more.

Key Tracks:

“Depending on who you are and how your heart is built, you might know this modus operandi well: it’s easier to be nice to other people than to yourself. If that’s an idea you can relate to, you’ll find something in common with Erika Wennerstrom.”

” Sweet Unknown is driven by Wennerstrom’s vocals, the warm and bluesy instrument fans of Heartless Bastards have grown to love. It’s also highlighted by her notes of inspiration – directed toward herself and her listeners.”

“Heartless Bastards, ride-or-dies, this one’s for you Erika Wennerstrom’s solo debut album infuses everything we love about the band’s smoke-and-grit energy into a record that’s intimate, open-throated, and still rollicking as hell.”

“The solo debut from the leader of Ohio rockers Heartless Bastards is a spacious, starlit collection that showcases her wail over sprawling Americana.”
