LISTEN — Slothrust’s “Peach”

June 28th, 2018

Unlike the persistent debate over how to pronounce their name Slothrust, (it’s Sloth-rust, officially), the LA-by-way-of-New York power trio is a juggernaut of cannonball riffs and lyrical intrigue. They’ve got a new album on the way, The Pact, and its lead single “Peach” — premiering today on Billboard — features frontwoman Leah Wellbaum leading up to the big chorus with after-school mad libs like this: “Silly sandbox, stupid scarecrow; Jack-o-lantern, chupacabra; sick menorah, candelabra.”

LISTEN — Georgia Anne Muldrow’s “Overload”

June 26th, 2018

“The L.A. singer and producer Georgia Anne Muldrow introduced Erykah Badu to the phrase “stay woke,” and was thusly the person who brought it into the public imagination. For Muldrow, the phrase not only connoted political awareness but also the need to carry on when you’re exhausted beyond your means. “Overload,” her new one-off single for Brainfeeder, offers a portrait of love as the incubator of resistance, the place where both of those definitions of “woke” are brought to life.”

WATCH — Miles Francis’ “Swimmers” Short Film + Tour Dates

June 12th, 2018

“To hear them tell it, there’s a star-crossed quality to the collaboration between Miles Francis and Charles Billot, a meeting of complementary dreamers that quickly became apparent when the three of us met at Greenpoint’s BÚÐIN cafe. They had been introduced a year earlier after admiring each others’ work from afar, and a chance message from Charles happened to slide Miles’ way just as the musician was sitting down to mix Swimmers, his solo debut.”
