WATCH – The Weather Station’s “Thirty”

August 24th, 2017

Toronto folk/rock musician Tamara Lindeman going by the name of The Weather Station released a new video this week via THE FADER for the song “Thirty.” The video features The Weather Station, performing alone before a dozen unimpressed men. “The song is (in part) about feeling loved and rejected at the same time,” she told The FADER. “Which is directly analogous to the experience of being under the male gaze — and also to being on television. So we staged a fake television show, with a male audience … Would it feel uncomfortable? Who would you side with, when you watched?”

WATCH – Absolutely Free’s “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore”

August 24th, 2017

Absolutely Free has released its cover of the classic “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” in honour of this week’s solar eclipse. The Toronto ‘astro-beat’ trio gives a celestial tint to the song originally recorded by Frankie Valli in 1965 and later popularized by The Walker Brothers. This version for August 21, 2017 is auspicious and serene, tape degraded yet futuristic, shot skyward by starry synthesizers, cavernous bass, shimmering highs, and Matt King‘s atmospheric vocals.

WATCH — ALA.NI’s “Circle”

August 23rd, 2017

ALA.NI debuted hear new music video for “Circle” today via V Magazine.

“This was the first video from the album that I (ALA.NI) worked with a director to produce, the rest of the videos I made myself, mostly on my iPad. I worked closely with Aelred Nils from the La Blogotheque team based in Paris. The inspiration was simply that I fell in love with a one thousand-year-old priory, situated in the South of France that a dear friend owns. I just had to film something there, sacred land. We actually stayed at the priory during shooting and had many memorable moments hanging by the pool and evenings spent watching the shooting stars in the night sky and crying.”
