October 6th, 2016

“If you’ve been a Sweet reader from day one, you might be feeling a sense of déjà vu right now. [Conner Youngblood] was featured in our very first edition, playing the harp and singing his ethereal track, “Stockholm.” If you’re not yet familiar with the talented Yale grad (who can play over 30 instruments!), what better way to get to know him than by spending a day off with him? On the heels of the release of his latest track, “Sulphur Springs,” Youngblood takes us to his favorite spots around Nashville, Tennessee, where he’s based, ending the day with a dreamy acoustic performance in his own backyard.” — via Sweet

“Speaking on behalf of the acclaimed “rocktronic” duo, The Crystal Method‘s Scott Kirkland gushed a bit over the chance to collaborate with a contemporary art icon: “Ken [Jordan] and I have been massive fans of Shepard’s art for years,” he said. “Personally, you won’t meet a nicer guy, but we decided to remix “Little Lions” simply because it’s a great song. We had a lot of fun with it and the artwork for the 12-inch remix package is stunning!” Indeed it is – and you would expect nothing less from a Shepard Fairey release – but, in his words, “This is not an art project with music included, it is a music project with art included.” — via Magnetic Mag

Letherette will release their second album for Ninja Tune – “Last Night On The Planet” – on 25th November 2016. Ten tracks deep and running the gamut from hip-hop (featuring raps from Rejjie Snow and Stones Throw’s Pyramid Vritra), to straight-up four-to-the-floor house trax and deeper, introspective downtempo moments (blessed by Jed & Lucia of Ubiquity Records).

First single ‘Shanel’ – available now – is an uptempo dancefloor heater (“downsampled and processed through an old rack sampler for that CRUNCH”) nodding to Andy and Rich’s love of 80s R&B productions by the late great Kashif (RIP), Rene & Angela and Glenn Jones.

LISTEN — Matt Pond PA “The Glow”

October 2nd, 2016

“We just mentioned that Matt Pond PA were planning a new album, and now we’ve got much more concrete details. The band will release Winter Lives on November 11, which Matt Pond recorded with longtime collaborator Chris Hansen on guitar and production, and core band member Shawn Alpay on cello and string arrangements. It’s also got contributions from The Mynabirds’ Laura Burhenn and Moving Panoramas frontwoman (and former Matt Pond PA guitarist) Leslie Sisson. The first single is “The Glow,” which premieres in this post. It’s an anthemic, jangly rocker that kinda finds the middle ground between Springsteenian heartland rock and Gin Blossoms-y alternative rock.” — via Brooklyn Vegan

WATCH — De La Soul Perform “Memory of… (US)” w/ Estelle, The Roots and More

October 1st, 2016

“We know how much Jimmy Fallon just loves classic hip-hop thanks to his ongoing History of Rap segment with heterosexual life mate Justin Timberlake. So it’s really no surprise that one of the most classic rap groups of all, De La Soul, wound up on The Tonight Show for their first late night performance behind their latest LP, and the Anonymous Nobody… The trio of Posdnuos, Dave and Maseo made the night all the more special by bringing along Estelle to run through “Memory Of … (US)”. They were also accompanied by The Roots and a string section.”
