LISTEN — Keyz N Krates “Nothing But Space (ft. Aqui)” + Tour Dates

January 18th, 2016

Less than two weeks out from the release of their Midnite Mass EP (January 15th via DIM MAK), Keys N Krates have debuted their new single “Nothing But Space (ft. Aqui)” via Beats 1 with Zane Lowe introducing the track earlier this morning as his ‘World First Record’. A full North American tour commences on the heels of the EP release with tickets on sale at

In their own words, “The Midnite Mass tour is going to be a visual extension of the EP, with everything from the lighting and staging to the supporting acts reflecting vibes and influences that exist in the EP. We want it to feel almost like a religious gathering, cause that really in essence is what rave culture is in a lot of ways.”

LISTEN — RJD2’s “Peace of What (ft. Jordan Brown)” Is WXPN’s “Song of the Week”

January 18th, 2016

“Raised in Columbus, Ohio, and a resident of Philly for several years, producer and DJ RJD2 has announced the release of a new album, Dame Fortune, due out March 25th on his own RJ’s Electrical Connections label. The first song from the record, “Peace of What” is WXPN’s Gotta Hear Song of the Week. Since his debut release in 2002, RJD2 has released numerous solo records and has worked with many national and local musicians. RJ’s most popular claim to fame was writing the theme from Mad Men, “A Beautiful Mine,” from the 2006 release Magnificent City, a collaboration with rapper Aceyalone, that also resulted in a collection of instrumentals from Magnificent City. In 2001, along with R&B singer Aaron Livingston (who we now know as Son Little), he formed Icedbird, and released The Abandoned Lullabye. Last year, RJ released STS x RJD2, a collaborative effort recorded with Philly rapper STS.” — via WXPN

“Baltimore boys Sun Club are releasing their ATO session for the song “Dressed Like Mothers” off of their debut album, The Dongo Durango via ATO Records. Obviously, after watching them perform live, you’re going to want to catch them on tour. You’re in luck – the five-piece is heading out on a European tour with HINDS starting in January, followed by a North American tour with Ra Ra Riot. “This tour with HINDS will be amazing,” said drummer Devin McCord of their upcoming European tour. “It’s always the best to go to a bunch of places and out of all things play shows there. It’s cool when most people don’t even understand your same language but are still jamming out in the audience in a foreign European place.”” — via Paste Magazine

WATCH — Yeasayer “I Am Chemistry”

January 15th, 2016

“It’s been a bit since you’ve heard from Yeasayer, yeah? The band’s last full-length came out in 2012, and it’s been a bit quiet from their camp until now. Today, the band released their newest single “I Am Chemistry,” to be released from their upcoming full-length record Amen & Goodbye, to be released this year. “I Am Chemistry” shows the band really hasn’t slowed down, each new segment blending into the next flawlessly to create a nice, complex composition.” — via Noisey

WATCH — Boss Selection “Flip & Rewind (ft. Rashida Jones)”

January 14th, 2016

“Producer Sunny Levine comes from one of the most famous musical families. His grandfather, Quincy Jones, worked with legends like Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra, and his father, Stewart Levine, produced albums for Simply Red, B.B. King and Minnie Riperton. Sunny’s own résumé is also pretty stacked: The producer has worked with Pete Yorn, Scarlett Johansson and Lenka, to name a few.

On his latest album, Volume 1, Levine — working under the alias Boss Selection — fuses the old with the new, collaborating with artists such as Orelia, Brenda Russell and James Gadson, as well as another famous member of his family: his aunt Rashida Jones. Jones not only shows off her vocal chops on the smooth single “Flip and Rewind” but also co-directed the Nineties-inspired music video with writing partner Will McCormack.” — via Rolling Stone

Lizzo Named “Artist To Watch In 2016” by Paper Magazine

January 13th, 2016

“Body-positive rapper (and PAPER Beautiful Person) Lizzo is one artist you don’t want to sleep on in 2016 . The 27-year-old can simultaneously rap about Sixpence None The Richer ( “Batches and Cookies”) and be brutally honest about being comfortable in your own skin. She just released a new record BIG GRRRL, Small World last month and opened for Sleater-Kinney on their reunion tour this year. Next year you’ll be able to catch her on quite a few tour dates in the U.S.” — via Paper Mag
