WATCH — Offshore “Off Peak”

August 21st, 2015

“This clip is an ode to one of many conversations that I had the pleasure to enjoy with Ewan. It could have been on a rooftop in Hackney Wick or between games at Efes, either way sometimes our digression would touch this subject which we both enjoyed, it was about the mass of available and “editable” footage on You Tube. We would enjoy sharing ideas about how to cut/edit/copy/and paste and re-use such raw pure material… Many cuts of the footages are picked from a series of almost a 100 documentaries and amateur videos that I have selected and edited from youtube. All that with a solemn beginning by Carl Sagan.” — Nazareno (Director)

WATCH — Gangrene “Sheet Music (ft. Havoc & Sean Price)”

August 20th, 2015

Gangrene have shared the video for “Sheet Music,” a track off of their forthcoming LP ‘You Disgust Me’ that features Havoc and the late Sean Price. The production value isn’t that high, but that’s not the point. The point is to drive folks to Sean Price Memorial Fund to help his family in their time of need.

LISTEN — Nathaniel Rateliff ‘Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats’

August 18th, 2015

“Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats’ self-titled debut album is coming out on Stax, the Memphis birthplace of so much legendary R&B, from Otis Redding to Isaac Hayes. It’s an honor to walk among that company, and it also makes perfect sense: Although a longtime resident of Denver, Rateliff grew up in rural Missouri. And, while that’s not technically the South, it’s close enough to Memphis to matter. Like the Stax belters of yore, Rateliff channels the earthiness and funk of the American experience: “S.O.B.” and its profane refrain may seem like little more than a five-alarm party at first glance, but there’s a profound, even poignant unleashing of sorrow at its heart.” — via NPR

WATCH — Dilly Dally “Desire”

August 16th, 2015

““Desire,” the snarling lead single to Dilly Dally’s debut full-length, Sore, captures the titular feeling in fits and starts, breaking down all that want until the only thing that’s left is a dull ache. The video for the track highlights the roller coaster dips of that particular feeling. There’s Katie Monks’ wide-eyed, excited expression as she gives it her all into the mic, there’s cutaways to legs sensually cutting together. The steady roll of the skateboard that starts the video ends with a bloody mouth against the concrete after the fall. The video shows off the good and the bad, in a way that makes it so you can’t take your eyes off the whole thing.” — via Stereogum

READ — Gone Fishin’: An Interview with Battles

August 15th, 2015

“For a band with only two albums under their belts, Battles are surprisingly intimidating. Both 2007’s Mirrored and 2011’s Gloss Drop explode with vibrant personality, but after I ask my first question during our three-way phone call, guitarist/keyboardist Ian Williams, guitarist/bassist Dave Konopka, and drummer John Stanier all hold their breath for what feels like a full minute before simultaneously bursting into laughter. No one knows who should talk first…”
